The El Paso Municipal Police Officers’ Association sadly announces the passing of Retired Sergeant Charles R. Krieger #219, who passed away on January 20, 2022 at the age of 92. (Ret.) Sergeant Krieger served with the El Paso Police Department for approximately 22 years, from October 1955 until his retirement on May 22, 1977.

EPPD touts the protection, prevention K9 Units provide

They are a vital part of the El Paso Police Department (EPPD), with training as tough as any human officer, and just as valuable. On Wednesday, officials with EPPD gave us a look at their K9 training regimen. The EPPD has a total of ten K9 teams, their handlers sharing that the dogs are used not only to protect their handler but can also prevent serious injury to a subject. KTSM.

Motorcade held for Special Agent Anthony Salas

The body of Special Agent Anthony Salas, 37, was transported from San Antonio to Atlantic Aviation in east El Paso Sunday with members of his family. There, Salas was greeted by dozens of law enforcement officers, family, and friends. He was transported in a procession for roughly 9 miles to the Crestview Funeral Home for a service.

Line of duty deaths increased 55% in 2021 from 2020 among law enforcement officers nationwide, according to the 2021 Law Enforcement Officers Fatalities Report from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF).   A total of 458 officers died in 2021, according to the preliminary data.

For the first time, the wife of late Euless police detective Alex Cervantes is talking about her husband. Cervantes was killed by an alleged drunk driver over the Thanksgiving weekend. His wife, Priscilla, was in the hospital for over a month. On Friday, loved ones will be gathering to say goodbye to the officer.

51% More Officers Have Been Murdered In 2021 So Far, FBI Says

The FBI is reporting that 59 law enforcement officers have been feloniously killed in the line of duty so far this year, a 51% spike compared to the 39 deaths at this time last year. The 59 officer deaths mean about one officer has been murdered every five days this year, the head of FBI Boston's division told the Herald on Monday.
